About

Poetry DNA is a method for exploring the music of poetry by converting the spoken word poem into digital information (MIDI) via recording software (Ableton Live, in this case). Virtual instruments can then be applied to the MIDI to create new musical sounds based on the poem.

Poetry DNA is the creation of James Gardner (aka poetrydnapoet), who first tried the idea with students at Asheville School in North Carolina when he was teaching English and other subjects from 1994 to 2015. (Thanks, students!) He makes music as Jr. James & The Late Guitar and is an uncertified Ableton Live novice.
