Maria Kannegaard’s Hey Ya

This instrumental version of OutKast’s “Hey Ya” is a great example of the jazz process of taking popular tunes and reinventing them with instrumental vision and prowess. Think Coltrane playing “My Favorite Things.”

It’s similar to what we are aspiring to do with Poetry DNA. Instead of having a computer audio program extract the musical DNA from the voice, however, the jazz musician relies simply on musical talent. 🙂
